Hockey player Monique Lamoureux returned from the Sochi Olympics with a silver medal and an idea: turn her hockey skills into a business.

Lamoureux Hockey was formed by Monique, her twin sister and fellow Olympian Jocelyne and their brother Mario. The goal, Lamoureux told the Grand Forks Herald, was to “to provide kids with the opportunity … to really develop their skills and become better hockey players.”

She also hopes the business will help fund her training for the 2018 Pyeongchang Olympics.

The company’s inaugural event was a three-day camp for young hockey players in North Dakota. Lamoureux said she heard from parents that there were too few hockey camps in the area, especially for young female players.

While sharing her knowledge on the ice may come easy for the two-time Olympian, Lamoureux found new challenges as the head of a company.

“Business is not my background at all,” she said. “I’m learning as I go and making sure I do things all the right way. … I’m able to do that because we’re starting small and then growing.”
