Polish hammer thrower Paweł Fajdek was fortunate to retrieve his World Championships gold medal after leaving it with a taxi driver following drinking heavily celebrating his victory in Beijing, according to Chinese and Polish reports.
Fajdek, 26, repeated as World champion in the hammer throw on Sunday in the Bird’s Nest.
He received a taxi ride early Monday morning and reportedly offered the gold medal to pay his fare and realized he didn’t have the medal later on in his hotel. Police helped retrieve it.
