Nets Daily reports the Nets will not be signing G Ricky Council IV.
Council will not join the Nets despite reportedly agreeing to a one-year, partially-guaranteed deal in August. Why the change was made is unknown at this time. Given Brooklyn’s youth, especially on the wings, Council appeared to have a chance to earn consistent rotation minutes after taking advantage of limited starting opportunities in Philadelphia last season.

ESPN’s Shams Charania reports that Ricky Council IV has signed a one-year deal with the Nets.
Council IV saw his playing time nearly double in Year 2 as he logged 17.1 minutes across 73 appearances in 2024-25. In 12 starts, the Arkansas product averaged 12.9 points and 6.2 rebounds. He could see meaningful rotation minutes for Brooklyn during the upcoming campaign.

Gina Mizell of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports the 76ers waived Ricky Council IV.
Council’s contract for the 2025-26 season was non-guaranteed, which put him at risk of being let go. In his second season with the team, the former Arkansas wing appeared in 73 games, averaging 7.3 points, 2.9 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 0.8 three-pointers in 17.1 minutes. While a highly athletic player, Council struggled with his shot, shooting 38.2 percent from the field and 25.8 percent from the foul line. Given the veterans the 76ers re-signed during the offseason, the return of Jared McCain from a knee injury and the selection of VJ Edgecombe in the draft, Council was unlikely to get the minutes needed to impact fantasy basketball in 2025-26.
  • PHI Shooting Guard #5
The 76ers will start Jared Butler, Quentin Grimes, Lonnie Walker IV, Marcus Bagley, and Adem Bona against the Bulls on Sunday.
Grimes is back in the mix for the shorthanded 76ers and will bump Ricky Council IV to the bench.
  • PHI Shooting Guard #14
Jared Butler, Lonnie Walker IV, Ricky Council IV, Marcus Bagley and Adem Bona will start Friday’s game against the Hawks.
With Quentin Grimes joining Philadelphia’s lengthy list of inactive players, Council moves into the starting lineup. He’s worth slotting into lineups in active fantasy leagues due to Philadelphia’s lack of options. Walker will also have added value due to the need for his scoring.
  • PHI Power Forward #28
Guerschon Yabusele (knee) is available to play against the Bucks on Thursday.
Yabusele will be back after missing the 76ers’ last two games, and he should immediately return to the starting unit. Ricky Council IV has been starting in place of Yabusele but may be pushed back to the bench with Yabusele back in the lineup.
  • PHI Power Forward #28
Guerschon Yabusele (knee) is questionable for Thursday’s game against the Bucks.
Yabusele is dealing with a sore right knee that kept him out of Tuesday’s game against the Knicks. He has a legitimate chance to be out again given his questionable listing. If that’s the case, Adem Bona and Ricky Council IV will see additional minutes. Both are worth streaming for different reasons with Bona providing rebounds and defensive stats while Council has the higher offensive ceiling.
  • PHI Power Forward #28
Guerschon Yabusele (knee) is out for Tuesday’s game against the Knicks.
Yabusele has a sore right knee and will not play on Tuesday. His absence means the 76ers will roll out an NBA-record 52nd different starting lineup this season. Adem Bona and Ricky Council IV will play more, with the former being worthy of a look for managers needing rebounds and defensive stats. Council possesses the higher offensive ceiling.
  • PHI Power Forward #28
Guerschon Yabusele (knee) is questionable for Tuesday’s matchup with the Knicks.
Yabusele was absent from the injury report on Monday, so his appearance back on the report Tuesday puts his status against the Knicks in doubt. If Yabusele is forced to miss a second-straight game, Adem Bona and Ricky Council IV could see bumps in playing time.
  • PHI Shooting Guard #14
Ricky Council IV turned in 17 points, 11 rebounds, three assists and a three-pointer across 36 minutes Sunday in a 127-109 loss to the Raptors.
Council IV filled in for the injured Guerschon Yabusele, and he made the most of his opportunity with a game-high rebound total. Philadelphia was missing 10 players, and the team is likely to be quite shorthanded for the final seven games of the season. Council IV could see additional starts for the season’s final contests.
