Astros optioned OF Shay Whitcomb to Triple-A Sugar Land; Reassigned INFs Jax Biggers and Riley Unroe to minor league camp.
Whitcomb, 27, always faced an uphill battle at securing a bench spot on the Astros’ Opening Day roster. He wound up hitting .263 (5-for-19) with zero homers, four RBI, two stolen bases and a 7/2 K/BB ratio across 21 plate appearances during Cactus League play. He should get an opportunity with the big league club at some point during the 2026 campaign.
  • HOU 2nd Baseman
Astros signed INF-OF Riley Unroe to a minor league contract.
A second-round pick of the Rays back in 2013, Unroe, who never has gotten the chance to play in the majors, has hit .246/.345/.353 with 58 homers and 155 steals in 4,219 plate appearances over 12 seasons in the minors. Last year was one of his best efforts, as he finished at .278/.397/.409 in 68 games as a part-timer for Triple-A Toledo. He also ended up with a 0.84 ERA in seven relief appearances, though that’s because eight of the nine runs he allowed were unearned.
  • DET 2nd Baseman
Tigers signed INF Riley Unroe to a minor league contract.
Unroe has bounced around between a couple organizations in the upper minors the last few years, but has yet to get a shot in the majors. The 28-year-old infielder will head to Triple-A Toledo as extra organizational depth.
  • HOU 2nd Baseman
    Angels released INF Riley Unroe.
Unroe was picked up from the Mariners in the minor league portion of last December’s Rule 5 Draft. If we had to guess, he’s likely to latch on with Seattle in the coming days as extra minor league infield depth.

  • HOU 2nd Baseman
Angels selected SS Riley Unroe from the Mariners in the MiLB Rule 5 Draft.
Unroe re-signed with the Mariners on a minor league contract just a few days ago after hitting .264/.367/.400 with eight homers and a career-high 25 stolen bases in 434 plate appearances over 102 games last year for Double-A Arkansas. The 27-year-old middle infielder is merely organizational depth at this stage of his career.

  • HOU 2nd Baseman
Mariners signed SS Riley Unroe to a minor league contract.
Unroe posted an underwhelming .211/.292/.325 batting line with two homers and two steals over 138 plate appearances last season across three levels in the Braves’ minor-league system. The 26-year-old journeyman infielder has spent time with three different organizations and has yet to reach the majors after being selected by the Rays in the second round of the 2013 MLB Draft.
