Free agent OT Russell Okung is “waiting for the right situation” before signing with a team.
Okung is willing to skip training camp as he waits out teams. The 32-year-old was limited to seven games with a calf injury in his only season with the Panthers. The Chiefs “checked in” on Okung in March and he’s been linked to the Steelers. Okung, who’s fully healthy, could see his market heat up if a team loses a tackle in camp.

  • ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports the Chiefs have “checked in on” free agent OT Russell Okung.
It’s the first known interest in Okung, who has yet to take a free agent visit. Okung was limited to seven games with a calf injury last year, but he played effectively when healthy, allowing just 13 pressures on 260 pass-blocking snaps. The 32-year-old seems likely to settle for another one-year deal this offseason.

  • Panthers LT Russell Okung (calf) is inactive for Week 15 against the Packers.
Trent Scott will start in Okung’s place, as the former undrafted free agent is clearly above 2019 second-round pick Greg Little on the depth chart. You already knew RB Christian McCaffrey was ruled out earlier this week. The Panthers also named QB Will Grier, DB Natrell Jamerson, OT Aaron Monteiro, G Dennis Daley and DE Austin Larkin as inactive against the Packers.

  • Panthers LT Russell Okung (calf) is active for Week 12 against the Vikings.
Okung was questionable heading into the week after missing a couple of weeks with a calf injury. He’s back, as is starting RG John Miller. The Panthers declared QB Will Grier, RB Christian McCaffrey, CB Donte Jackson, S Sam Franklin, G Dennis Daley, and T Greg Little as inactive. Teddy Bridgewater gets the nod at quarterback.

  • FA Offensive Lineman #78
Panthers RG Dennis Daley (concussion) is out Week 12 against the Vikings.
Daley was playing left tackle before sliding to right guard last week because of John Miller’s (knee, ankle) absence. Miller is questionable with that same injury after three straight limited sessions, and LT Russell Okung (calf) is in the same boat. The Panthers could be down three starting linemen if Miller and Okung are unable to go. The Teddy Bridgewater and Christian McCaffrey injuries aren’t the only ones worth monitoring in Carolina.

  • Panthers LT Russell Okung (calf) is doubtful for Week 11 against the Lions.
Coach Matt Rhule said he doesn’t expect either RG John Miller (ankle/knee) or Okung to play despite listing both as questionable. The Panthers will continue rotating Greg Little and Trent Scott at left tackle, potentially playing one on the interior in place of Miller.

  • Panthers LT Russell Okung (calf) is out for Week 10 against the Bucs.
Okung remains out with his nagging calf injury. He’s fought injuries throughout the season as the Panthers rotate Greg Little and Trent Scott to protect Teddy Bridgewater’s blind side.

  • Panthers LT Russell Okung (calf) did not practice Thursday.
Okung left Week 7’s game with the calf injury and has missed two straight games. If Okung can’t get in a limited practice on Friday, he probably won’t play this week against the Bucs.

  • Panthers LT Russell Okung (calf) is doubtful for Week 9 against the Chiefs.
If Okung can’t go, Carolina supposedly plans to rotate Greg Little and Trent Scott on the left side. Okung mustered 26 snaps against New Orleans in Week 7 but exited early and ultimately didn’t make it back in time for the team’s short turnaround against the Falcons. He’s not expected to suit up.

  • Panthers LT Russell Okung (calf) is inactive for Week 8 against the Falcons.
Okung entered the evening as “doubtful.” That suggests that, had this been a normal week, he might have been able to get back to full health. Okung will be questionable for Week 9 against the Chiefs. Greg Little will take his place vs. the Falcons. Also inactive for the Panthers are QB Will Grier, DB Sean Chandler, OL Mike Horton and DT Zach Kerr.
