Steelers tendered contracts to restricted free agents WR Mike Wallace, CB Keenan Lewis, S Ryan Mundy, TE David Johnson, G Doug Legursky and G Ramon Foster.
Wallace will be guaranteed $2.7 million under the first-round tender. Along with Baltimore’s Lardarius Webb, he’s expected to test a restricted free agent market that hasn’t seen an NFL team successfully sign an offer sheet at the first-round level in a decade. The other five Steelers are believed to have been tendered at the lowest level available to the team.
  • FA Defensive Back
The Steelers are expected to re-sign restricted free agent SS Ryan Mundy.
Troy Polamalu’s backup notched 37 tackles and one interception in 2011. He has appeared in all 16 games each of the past three seasons.
  • FA Defensive Back
Steelers re-signed restricted free agent S Ryan Mundy to a one-year, $1.26 million contract.
Mundy is a quality run-support safety and special teamer, but there is a noticeable drop-off in coverage whenever he’s forced to make spot starts. He’ll return as the Steelers’ third safety behind Ryan Clark and Troy Polamalu.
  • FA Defensive Back #25
Steelers FS Ryan Clark won’t play against the Broncos Sunday due to his sickle cell trait.
Clark didn’t play in last year’s Wild Card game in Denver, so we knew he wouldn’t play in Week 1 this year. Ryan Mundy, who had five tackles and two forced fumbles in that playoff game, figures to draw the start once again.
  • PIT Defensive Back #43
Coach Mike Tomlin hinted that Troy Polamalu (calf) is unlikely to return in Week 3.
With the bye looming in Week 4, holding Polamalu and James Harrison (knee) out against the Raiders would make a lot of sense. Backup Ryan Mundy had five tackles in last week’s win over the Jets.
  • PIT Defensive Back #43
Coach Mike Tomlin said SS Troy Polamalu (calf) will not play in Thursday’s game against the Titans.
Polamalu’s latest aggravation of his troublesome right calf injury has the Steelers concerned. It’s been an issue since the end of last season and he’s now pulled it twice in a month. Ryan Mundy should be prepared for an extended stay in the starting lineup, robbing the Steelers of Polamalu’s difference-making ability.
  • FA Defensive Back
Giants agreed to terms with S Ryan Mundy, formerly of the Steelers.
Mundy replaces Kenny Phillips, who signed with the Eagles on Thursday, as the Giants’ third safety behind Antrel Rolle and Stevie Brown. Mundy, 28, started three games last season and registered a career-high 39 tackles.
  • FA Defensive Back
Free agent S Ryan Mundy will visit the Giants on Wednesday night.
Mundy would be an option for New York’s third safety role behind Stevie Brown and Antrel Rolle. Incumbent third safety Kenny Phillips is not expected back.
  • NO Defensive Back #6
Giants CB Prince Amukamara left Sunday night’s game in the second quarter with an apparent head injury.
Amukamara and Ryan Mundy were involved in a scary head-to-head collision at the end of the first half. Both are being evaluated for possible concussions and are questionable to return.
  • FA Defensive Back
The Bears have expressed interest in free agent S Ryan Mundy.
Mundy is a third safety/special teams type and wouldn’t cure Chicago’s deep safety woes alongside Chris Conte. Bears GM Phil Emery is also said to have reached out to the player reps for free agent S Mike Mitchell.
