The USMNT made it two wins in two games to start the 2030 World Cup cycle as they beat Chile 4-2 in St. Louis on Tuesday, with teenagers Julian Hall and Mathis Albert scoring goals alongside veterans Sebastian Berhalter and Chris Richards.

Berhalter opened the scoring in the 37th minute after the USMNT largely controlled proceedings up until that point, but Chile pulled level with the last kick of the first half from a botched corner kick. Chile took the lead in the 49th but Hall made it 2-2 with a looping header just two minutes later.

Updates
GOAL! USMNT 1-0 Chile: Berhalter slots home to open the scoring (37')

A fantastic move by the USMNT, as Sergiño Dest and Gio Reyna combined on the left flank to send Dest dribbling into the penalty area. From there, he played a square ball across the top of the box, which Julian Hall dummied and let run on for Berhalter making the late-arriving run. A forward’s finish, placed into the bottom far corner, by a midfielder.

GOAL! USMNT 2-2 Chile: Hall heads home Reyna’s cross for an instant response (51')

18-year-old Julian Hall has now scored in each of his first two USMNT appearances after rising high and getting on the end of Gio Reyna’s cross barely two minutes after Chile took the lead. The quick passing and movement by Sergiño Dest and Brooklyn Raines was really good to open up the space for Reyna.

GOAL! USMNT 3-2 Chile: Richards thumps a header shortly after coming in (72')

Chris Richards was one of five subs that came on in the 63rd minute, and within eight minutes he is on the scoresheet and the USMNT is back in front. Sebastian Berhalter fired a bullet of a corner kick into the box and Richards met it with full force and pinpoint precision for his fourth international goal. The USMNT has also scored a set-piece goal in six straight games, its longest streak in 15 years.

GOAL! USMNT 4-2 Chile: Mathis Albert becomes USA’s youngest-ever scorer (90'+3)

Mathis Albert is the youngest player to ever score for the USMNT. Antonee Robinson floated a free kick to the back post and Auston Trusty headed it straight across goal for the 17-year-old Borussia Dortmund attacker to clang home off the crossbar.

GOAL! USMNT 1-2 Chile: Gutierrez fires home to start the second half (49')

Frankie Westfeld timed his header wrong at midfield and Maximiliano Gutierrez ended up racing half the length of the field before beating Chris Brady with a well-hit strike.

GOAL! USMNT 1-1 Chile: Ulloa equalizes with the last kick of the first half (45'+1)

The USMNT was less than a minute from heading into halftime with a 1-0 lead, but they couldn’t clear a mad scramble in front of goal in the first minute of stoppage time and Diego Ulloa slammed it home with the final kick of the first half. Chris Brady had two cracks at punching it away, but sent the second one in the wrong direction and eventually Ulloa hooked it home.

POST! Chile smashes the crossbar twice in two minutes (35')

Chris Brady is living on the edge after his goal was thwacked twice in two minutes, first by Ben Brereton Diaz and then Dario Osorio. It was all USMNT for the opening half-hour, but Chile have now gone closest to scoring twice in quick succession.

USMNT unlucky not to score from two great chances in first 20 minutes

The Yanks have had two great scoring chances the last few minutes. First, Miles Robinson headed Gio Reyna’s free kick down at the back post, only for goalkeeper Lawrence Vigouroux to make a spectacular save on the goal line in the 14th minute. Then, five minutes later, Sebastian Berhalter played Julian Hall in behind Chile’s backline with a brilliant through ball and Hall rounded Vigouroux as he came rushing out, but he skied the finish from a tight angle.
