Gerardo Torrado joins NASL’s Indy Eleven

After a long, successful career for both club and country in Mexico, Gerardo Torrado is set to take on a new challenge; in the United States.

The veteran Cruz Azul midfielder has joined NASL side Indy Eleven on Wednesday, according to the club.

“This is a young and growing league and I’m excited to join and help it grow,” Torrado said upon being introduced to the club. “I’m happy to live in the city of Indianapolis where it’s growing in every aspect and not just in regards to soccer.”

Torrado, 37, joins the U.S. side after spending the last 12 years with Cruz Azul. In that time, the holding midfielder made 325 appearances for the team, and notching 12 goals in the process.

In addition to his his club duties, which also saw him play at Spanish sides Sevilla and Racing Santander, the Mexican international played just shy of 150 matches for El Tri. Torrado made three World Cup appearances for Mexico (2002, 2006 & 2010) and played a part in the team’s three CONCACAF Gold Cup titles in (2003, 2009 & 2011).
