I spend so much time with professional soccer – and I am blessed that way, truly.
But I always appreciate the honesty of pick-up soccer, or youth soccer (until it gets all high-dollar clubby, that is … then I still get it, but it makes me wince), or the adults leagues that go on every night at indoor centers around the country. That’s soccer in its purest form.
And I love stuff like this.
Thanks to New York Red Bulls midfielder Dax McCarty for the picture, which I “borrowed” from his Twitter feed.
This shot is from today at the Street Soccer USA National Cup, happening in New York. Street Soccer USA is a not-for-profit organization that promotes competitive street soccer, but has larger and more important aims, too, like busting up homelessness and poverty.
More on Street Soccer USA is here.
For me, non-profits, soccer, the honesty of amateur matches, the big city … man, what’s not to love?
