Tarpley signed a contract with the Long Island Ducks of the independent Atlantic League back in late April and will head to Double-A Richmond in the Giants’ minor-league system. Tarpley will serve as the 27th man in Monday’s doubleheader against the Braves. The 28-year-old was charged with two runs while failing to retire a batter in his only appearance with the Mets this season, so his ERA is actually infinite. He’s just a fresh arm and probably won’t pitch in an important spot.

Tarpley had a nightmare appearance Saturday against the Nationals, so he’ll actually go back down to the minors with the good old “infinite” next to his name in ERA and WHIP. So there’s that, at least.
