Couch (5'10/165) pledged to Michigan in April, though 247Sports’ Steve Lorenz refers to that initial decision as “somewhat surpris[ing].” However, after committing during an official visit to Ann Arbor, he took a number of visits to Miami. The Hurricanes will almost certainly be a major player for his services -- perhaps the favorite -- now that the cornerback has returned to the open market. On the 247Sports composite board, Couch slides in as the No. 244 overall prospect in the 2019 class. While his spurning of Michigan does hurt, the Wolverines are still in play to land a top-10 class.

Couch’s commitment to the Wolverines lasted two months, and -- at least for now -- he’s set to join the Hurricanes. It’s a big get for the Miami class, as Couch is considered one of the best defensive backs in the class. He’s not the biggest player in the class (5'10/165), but he’s considered an exceptional athlete, and his leaping ability along with his cover skills could allow him to play on the outside -- at least on the collegiate level.
