Reese

Reese has been ruled out after she didn’t participate in shoot around during the portion open to media members. While head coach Tyler Marsh explained that she was a game time decision earlier in the day, Marsh spoke to reporters pregame and announced that she was out for the Sky’s final game of the 2025 season. Reese finishes her sophomore season on uncertain terms with the Sky after she questioned the direction of the franchise in an interview with the Chicago Tribune and as a result the franchise suspended her a half a game on September 7 against the Aces that she ended up sitting out of completely anyway. She also didn’t play two days later against the Aces. Reese finishes her second year in the WNBA averaging a 14.7 /12.6 double-double and is the third player in WNBA history to average a double-double in each of first two seasons.

While the Sky lost both of their games in Las Vegas, Cardoso’s trip was productive. The second-year center totaled 23 points and 28 rebounds in the two defeats, pushing her double-double tally to 13. By comparison, Cardoso recorded seven double-doubles as a rookie. With the recent suspension of fellow 2024 first-round pick Angel Reese, who did not play on Tuesday due to a back injury, it’s anyone’s guess what the Sky roster will look like in 2026 as the franchise rebuilds. Both young post players are under contract for next season, but that does not guarantee anything.

Reese remains out after not playing against the Aces on Sunday. The second-year forward, suspended for the first half of that defeat, did not play due to a back issue that has lingered since the All-Star break. Elizabeth Williams will remain in the starting lineup alongside Kamilla Cardoso.

Reese had been suspended by the Sky for the first half of Sunday’s game against the Aces for what the team phrased as detrimental comments. Before the second half of the matchup with the Aces, she was ruled out with a back injury, leaving her sidelined for two straight games. The Sky will face the Aces again on Tuesday before their season finale on Thursday against the Liberty. Reese’s status for the two upcoming games is yet to be determined.

Already suspended for Friday’s game against the Fever after accumulating eight technical fouls on the season, Reese’s comments in a recent interview have landed her in hot water with the Sky franchise. Due to comments lamenting the franchise’s current state and her desire to see the front office improve the roster this offseason, Reese has been suspended for the first half of Sunday’s game in Las Vegas. “I’m not settling for the same s−−− we did this year,” Reese told the Chicago Tribune. “We have to get good players. We have to get great players. That’s a non-negotiable for me. I’m willing and wanting to play with the best. And however I can help to get the best here, that’s what I’m going to do this offseason. So it’s going to be very, very important this offseason to make sure we attract the best of the best because we can’t settle for what we have this year.” Chicago entered Friday with a 10-30 record and has missed the postseason each of the last two seasons. Reese has been consistently productive, but the franchise has failed in its quest to compete for a playoff spot.

While Reese notched another double-double in Wednesday’s win over the Sun, she was also whistled for her eighth technical foul of the season. Per WNBA rules, that triggers an automatic one-game suspension. As was the case when the second-year forward missed time earlier this season with a back injury, she’ll likely be replaced in the starting lineup by veteran post Elizabeth Williams.

The Sky ended its four-game losing streak on Wednesday with a blowout win over the Sun. In the win, Reese shot inefficiently but utilized the free-throw line to find her way to double-digit points while leading all players in both points and rebounds en route to another double-double. The sophomore forward also made an impact on the defensive end, as she tied a season high in steals. Chicago has four games left in the regular season, leaving four opportunities to either surpass or match the 26 double-doubles she tallied as a rookie.

Another game and another double-double for Reese, who’s up to 22 in her second WNBA season. By comparison, Reese had 26 double-doubles as a rookie, but that was in 34 games played. The Sky forward has been consistently productive as a rebounder and doubled her assist average from the 2024 campaign. While fantasy managers who have Reese rostered did miss out on some value when a back injury sidelined her, the value has been consistent when she’s been on the floor.

Reese set a new season-high in rebounds on Thursday, with the 12 defensive boards and eight offensive boards leading her to reach 20 rebounds for the first time this season. In addition to her success on the boards, the sophomore center stood out offensively — she tallied at least four assists for the third straight game and scored 15 or more points for the 14th time. As a result, Reese landed her 21st double-double of the season and continues to thrive down the stretch of her second WNBA season. The Sky will face the Storm on Saturday.

While Reese wasn’t dominant as a scorer on Monday, she put together a balanced performance that impacted the game in several areas. The most notable area of impact was on the glass, where the second-year forward collected at least 15 boards for the ninth time this season. Yet, she still finished as one of the Sky’s top scorers and logged at least three steals for the 8th time during her sophomore campaign. Reese’s inefficient shooting prevented her from greater overall production, but her well-roundedness allowed her to provide fantasy managers with another productive performance.
