“I’m not going to put it in pen yet, but we’ll put it in dark pencil that he’s got a good chance to make his next start for the Padres,” said Shildt prior to Monday’s series opener against the Diamondbacks. King was lit up for six runs over 3 1/3 innings on Sunday in his first rehab tune-up, although he did get his pitch count up to 61 in that outing. With San Diego in the midst of a playoff race, there’s an increased sense of urgency to get their ace back to the big leagues. There should be a final decision on his status at some point in the coming days.
  • CHC Left Fielder #30
Other than that, it was a pretty quiet day. Tucker’s second game against his long-time employer was a spectacular one, and featured a three-run blast off a wholly ineffective Lance McCullers Jr. in the fourth to give the Astros a 7-2 lead. His stolen base is his 20th, while that roundtripper brings his season total to 17. Time will tell who ‘wins’ the trade between these two teams, but right now, the Cubs have one of the best players in the sport who is now hitting .291/.396..537 in his first (possibly final) season with the Cubs.
  • BOS 3rd Baseman #11
Specifically, Devers said he would be “OK” if he was starting at designated hitter on Opening Day. There had been some hand-wringing about Devers not wanting to move off of third base with Alex Bregman in town, but it was always expected that Devers would do what the team wanted him to do. We should expect to see Devers at DH a lot this season, which should also help his throwing shoulder to stay healthy, while Bregman mans third base and leaves second base for David Hamilton, Vaughn Grissom, and Kristian Campbell. In other news, Devers hit a mammoth home run off of Walker Buehler in live batting practice Thursday as well.
  • NYY Right Fielder #27
Stanton was outstanding in the postseason, but the 35-year-old slugger has dealt with a plethora of injuries over the last few seasons, and it appears this will keep him out of action to begin the Grapefruit League. Asked about if Stanton would be ready for the start of the season, Yankees manager Aaron Boone said: “I don’t know. We’ll see. It’s tough to say ... I’m not going to put any timeline on it. We’re just going to be smart with it and kind of listen to it a little bit.” It’s definitely a situation to monitor for those considering Stanton for their fantasy roster.
  • CHC Shortstop
"[Shaw] has to earn that job,” said Hoyer. “I’m not going to gift him that on a conference call in the middle of December.” Shaw shook off a frosty start last season to solidify his status as one of the top prospects in the entire fantasy landscape, batting .284/.379/.488 with 21 homers and 31 steals in 523 plate appearances last year between Triple-A Iowa and Double-A Tennessee. The 23-year-old, who has a relatively clear path to emerge as Chicago’s starting third baseman after the club jettisoned Isaac Paredes last week in the Kyle Tucker blockbuster, projects an immediate multi-category impact fantasy contributor and is looking like a prime late-round target in drafts, especially deeper mixed leagues.
  • NYY Left Fielder #22
With the World Series over, reporters were quick to ask Soto about his offseason plans, and the 26-year-old said, “I don’t know what’s the teams that are going to come after me... I don’t have any doors closed. I’m gonna be available for all 30 teams.” While Soto may not be closing any doors, there are certainly countless teams that, for some indefensible reason, aren’t going to offer him a contract near his value. That means there will likely be a bidding war among the big-budget teams in baseball for his services, namely the Yankees, Mets, Dodgers, Phillies, Cubs, and Blue Jays. Where he ends up will certainly be the story of the off-season.
  • PHI 1st Baseman #3
Harper hadn’t homered since August 9. He decided to make up for lost time with the multi-homer game, and he’s up to 150 homers as a member of the Phillies. The 31-year-old still has 28 homers on the year despite that month-long power drought, and his .290/.377/.537 slash has been just fine without the roundtrippers. That being said, fantasy managers sure won’t complain if Harper wants to go on a hot run of dingers to end the season.
  • LAA Center Fielder #27
“I feel great, I feel fine and I’m progressing the way I should be,” Trout said. “It’s good to get out there and start moving around instead of being in the weight room and the cage. It’s all about the progression of running. I feel good hitting. I took 30 swings out there with no pain at all.” Trout is aiming to return from knee surgery late this month.
  • MIN 3rd Baseman #23
Lewis expressed concern to reporters afterwards that he’ll wind up back on the injured list since the Twins don’t want to take any chances with his long-term health. “I have no idea. But probably not very optimistic, to be honest with you,” said Lewis. “I’m praying, but it’s usually always horrible news. So we’ll see.” All fantasy managers can do now is wait and hope for the best. There should be an official update on his status prior to Wednesday’s game. It’ll likely be top prospect Brooks Lee, who boasts a stratospheric 1.029 OPS with seven homers in 20 games this season for Triple-A St. Paul, coming up to take his spot at the hot corner, if he winds up requiring a trip to the injured list.
  • PIT Starting Pitcher #30
Skenes got into trouble in the opening frame when he surrendered a run-scoring double to Spencer Steer, but managed to escape the frame without any additional damage, and went on to limit Cincinnati’s lineup to just five baserunners over his final five innings of work. The electrifying 22-year-old rookie induced an eye-popping 18 swinging strikes in this one, including nine on his splinker alone, and finished with a near-elite 34 percent CSW. He’s recorded at least seven strikeouts in six of his first seven starts since arriving in the majors back in mid-May. He’s the real deal. He’ll bring a sparkling 2.29 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 53/7 K/BB ratio across 39 1/3 innings (seven starts) into a favorable matchup on Sunday against the strikeout-prone Rays.
