We have just one game on Thursday night, and it happens to be a good one. The New York Yankees will renew their rivalry with the Boston Red Sox, and both are heading in opposite directions. Will the trends continue? Let’s get into my best bet for this one.

Boston Red Sox (-110) vs. New York Yankees (-110) Total: 9.5

The Yankees were winners of five of seven prior to the All-Star Break, and the Red Sox losers of four in five. It’s tough to say there’s real momentum with the time off for both, but it certainly did feel like the birth of a new Yankees team just prior to the pause in play.

New York has brought its wRC+ to 109 over the last two weeks, shining with more contributions in the power department to go along with a steady walk rate. There are guys like Luke Voit and Gary Sanchez who are showing signs of coming out of their slumps, and Aaron Judge continues to rake. It’s the opposite for the Sox, who have faded ever so slightly over the last five games and have now called on Jarren Duran.

Duran doesn’t offer much in the offensive department, so I’m not going to change my projections based on his addition. He is fast on the basepaths and will add something in the field, but that’s where it probably ends.

I’m looking at this pitching matchup as one to exploit. The Yankees didn’t hit lefties all that well last year, and started slowly against southpaws this season, but lately that tale has begun to get a rewrite. Rodriguez is beginning to crack in the walk department and has slipped a bit since his hot pace to start the year, and the Yankees should take advantage by getting some free passes.

I see German, a guy who has had success twice against the Red Sox this year, as a worthy opponent and one that should be able to navigate a lineup with some dead spots at the moment. Put it all together and I think you have a very short home favorite that needs to be bet.

Edge: Yankees -110
