Arsenal vs Chelsea (Saturday, 12:30 pm ET)
Arsenal are going through tough times as a club right now. Just a few weeks ago, it looked as if they were running away with the Premier League title. After four winless and a 4-1 defeat to Manchester City, they are in second looking up to City. They need a miracle should they win the league. Their biggest issue through that dreadful run has been defensive. They have conceded at least two goals in four straight matches.
Luckily for Arsenal, Chelsea have been absolutely dreadful. They are winless in their last six and are 11th on the table. They are averaging less than a goal per match. They are now onto their third manager of the season, and truthfully, Frank Lampard is up to his neck in issues. He’s been putting out questionable lineups, and they will be without the services of four keep players for this match. All of Mason Mount, Marc Cucurella, Kalidou Koulibaly, and Reece James are out for this contest.
This could be a massive bounce-back spot for Arsenal, who luckily play this match at the Emirates. They win with ease.
Prediction: Arsenal 3, Chelsea 1
Fulham vs Manchester City (Sunday, 9 am ET)
Fulham started the season on fire with massive goal contributions from Aleksandar Mitrovic. They have since cooled off a bit but are in a great position, being 10th on the table. Defensively they are solid, only conceding 1.38 goals per home contest. Offensively, the goal production isn’t nearly enough to be a top-five club, but securing safety in their first season back in the Premier League is their number-one priority.
Unfortunately for them they play an in-form Manchester City team. City have won seven straight and are coming off a smashing result to Arsenal. Tactically they were better than Arsenal. They made Arsenal look the weaker side from the start of the match. They should be able to do the same against Fulham this weeknd.
The only problem City face is the massive emotional let down possibility. They could be a club who is just emotionally drained by having just jumped Arsenal. Playing at Craven Cottage is no easy feat. However, I still like them to win this match.
Prediction: Fulham 1, Manchester City 2
Newcastle vs Southampton (Sunday, 9 am ET)
Newcastle have started the season off scorching. They have won five out of the last six and are now third on the table. To start the season, not many would’ve projected that Newcastle would be a top four club. The production they are getting out of players like Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton can not be understated. Defensively they aren’t as stout as they were to start the season, but they are still one of the league’s best.
Now they play a Southampton team who are on the bottom of the table and haven’t won a match in quite some time. Even though they are winless in their last five matches, they have been playing better. The issue they face is if they press or if they get stretched, Newcastle have the talent and finishing ability to blow them out. Which is exactly what I think happens in this match.
Prediction: Newcastle 4, Southampton 1
