Coach Mike McCoy left the door open for Charlie Whitehurst to lose his backup QB job to seventh-round QB Brad Sorensen.
“We’re giving everyone an opportunity to compete,” said McCoy after watching the tape of San Diego’s preseason opener. Sorensen completed 7-of-10 throws for 84 yards and a touchdown against the Seahawks, while Whitehurst was terrifically bad, going 7-of-15 for 59 yards and a pair of interceptions. The new Chargers regime has no ties to Whitehurst, a holdover from ex-GM A.J. Smith.
