Chargers agreed to terms with No. 221 overall pick QB Brad Sorensen on a four-year contract.
Sorensen (6-foot-4 1/2, 229) has good size, but he looks like nothing more than a camp arm for the Chargers. He’ll get plenty of reps in rookie minicamp as the only quarterback rostered behind Philip Rivers and Charlie Whitehurst.

Chargers selected Southern Utah QB Brad Sorensen with the No. 221 overall pick.
Sorensen (6-foot-4 1/2, 229) left Southern Utah as the school’s all-time leading passer, but regressed sharply as a senior after earning Player of the Year in the Great West Conference as a junior. Sorensen looks like a camp arm or practice-squad candidate at this point. The Chargers have nobody under contract behind Philip Rivers and Charlie Whitehurst.

Coach Mike McCoy left the door open for Charlie Whitehurst to lose his backup QB job to seventh-round QB Brad Sorensen.
“We’re giving everyone an opportunity to compete,” said McCoy after watching the tape of San Diego’s preseason opener. Sorensen completed 7-of-10 throws for 84 yards and a touchdown against the Seahawks, while Whitehurst was terrifically bad, going 7-of-15 for 59 yards and a pair of interceptions. The new Chargers regime has no ties to Whitehurst, a holdover from ex-GM A.J. Smith.
  • FA Quarterback
    Vikings signed QB Brad Sorensen.
With Teddy Bridgewater dealing with a sore shoulder, Sorensen will be a camp arm. There is still not much reason to worry about Bridgewater’s status.
  • FA Quarterback
    Vikings re-signed QB Brad Sorensen.
Sorensen was just cut on Monday, but the Vikings need his arm again after Teddy Bridgewater suffered a torn ACL and dislocated knee in Tuesday’s practice. Minnesota will surely look for an upgrade on Sorensen in the coming days. For now, it’s Shaun Hill, Sorensen, and UDFA Joel Stave.
  • FA Quarterback
Chargers promoted QB Brad Sorensen from the practice squad.
It’s a depth move with Philip Rivers (illness, foot) not fully healthy. Sorensen should serve as the No. 3 quarterback
  • FA Quarterback
    Chargers waived QB Brad Sorensen.
Sorensen was promoted off San Diego’s practice squad when Phillip Rivers fell ill ahead of Sunday’s loss to Kansas City. Rivers should be feeling better, so Sorensen will likely revert back to the practice squad.
  • FA Quarterback
    Chargers re-signed QB Brad Sorensen.
The Bolts cut Sorensen two days ago but were able to bring him back after he went unclaimed on waivers. He’ll serve as the No. 3 QB behind Philip Rivers and Kellen Clemens.
  • FA Quarterback
    Chargers waived QB Brad Sorensen.
The release comes with an NFI designation. San Diego will move forward with Bryn Renner behind Philip Rivers and Kellen Clemens.
  • FA Quarterback
Chargers waived QB Brad Sorensen, CB Crezdon Butler, DE Joe Kruger and DE Doug Worthington.
The No. 221 pick of last year’s draft, Sorensen wasn’t active for a single game as a rookie. At best, he’ll bounce around the league as a camp arm the next 2-3 seasons.
