According to the Denver Post, “it seems” UDFA Brennan Clay is getting the first crack at the Broncos’ No. 4 tailback job at OTAs.
Montee Ball is locked in at No. 1, with C.J. Anderson and Ronnie Hillman vying for No. 2. Clay was a college committee back and has below-average measurables (4.64 forty, 5'11/202, 9-foot-11 broad jump.) We wouldn’t give Clay a second look were he on a different team. In Denver, he’s someone to monitor.

Broncos signed Oklahoma RB Brennan Clay.
Clay (5-foot-10 3/4, 202) was the No. 2 running back recruit in the 2010 high school class, behind only Penn State/USC’s Silas Redd. (2010 wasn’t a good year for RBs.) A committee back for his entire stay at Oklahoma, Clay wound up rushing 379 times for 1,913 yards (5.05 YPC) and 13 touchdowns, with 52 receptions. He ran 4.64 at the Sooners’ Pro Day, adding a respectable 9-foot-11 broad jump. Clay has enough talent to be a No. 2 NFL back, but lacks starting-caliber attributes. He’ll fight for reps behind Montee Ball and C.J. Anderson.

Broncos waived/released RB Brennan Clay, OT Winston Justice, LB Jamar Chaney, WR Greg Hardin, LB Jerrell Harris, S Charles Mitchell, DT Will Pericak, QB Bryn Renner, DE Chase Vaughn, RB Jerodis Williams, and WR Greg Wilson.
Clay reportedly showed well during OTAs, but he clearly got exposed when the pads came on, getting outplayed by fellow UDFA Juwan Thompson. Justice is the biggest name in this group. There are no true surprises.
