Titans signed OT Brent Qvale, formerly of the Texans.
Qvale spent his first five years with the Jets before joining the Texans last season. He now goes to a cross-division foe in Tennessee, where he should offer valuable depth in the trenches. Qvale has appeared in 77 games across six seasons, registering 18 starts as a backup-caliber guard and tackle.

  • Texans re-signed OT Brent Qvale to a one-year, $1.047 million contract.
Qvale was part of Houston’s final wave of cuts on Saturday. The team also re-signed LS Jon Weeks. Qvale spent all but three games on IR with a knee injury last year.

  • Texans signed OT Brent Qvale to a one-year, $1.047 million contract.
Qvale spent all but three games on IR with a knee injury last year. He reunites with ex-Jets OL coach Mike Devlin in Houston. Qvale should back up at multiple spots.

  • Jets activated OT Brent Qvale from injured reserve.
The Jets had a roster spot available after sending Ryan Griffin (ankle) to injured reserve. Out since injuring his knee early in training camp, Qvale will serve as depth behind starting tackles Kelvin Beachum and Brandon Shell.
  • Jets placed LT Brent Qvale (knee) on injured reserve.
Qvale was carted out of practice back in July and has officially been placed on the injured reserve. His absence won’t help the depth on the Jets’ offensive line, but they’re still set at left tackle thanks to the presence of Kelvin Beachum.
  • Jets OT Brent Qvale was carted off with a right knee injury at Sunday’s practice.
Beat reporter Brian Costello of the New York Post said it "[did] not look good.” Qvale has already been fitted for a cast, an indication the Jets aren’t taking his injury lightly. The backup tackle logged 159 snaps over five games last season including two starts.
  • Jets re-signed OT Brent Qvale.
Qvale was forced into two starts late last season, but he is best suited as a reserve who can play both guard and tackle. That should be his role again this season.
  • The Jets have not decided their right tackle starter after four preseason games.
Incumbent RT Breno Giacomini (back) appears headed to reserve/PUP, leaving Brent Qvale and journeyman Ben Ijalana to compete. “We’ll alternate both throughout the week and go right up until gameday,” is how coach Todd Bowles said the Jets would ultimately make the decision. With shaky RG Brian Winters at right guard, the right side of the Jets’ line could be a problem early in the year.
  • Second-year G/T Brent Qvale has been getting reps with the Jets’ first-team offense throughout the offseason program.
A 2014 UDFA out of Nebraska, Qvale spent his rookie season on the Jets’ practice squad. Qvale stands 6-foot-6, 318. With James Carpenter locked in at left guard, the Jets have an open competition on the right side between Qvale, Willie Colon, Brian Winters, Dakota Dozier, and Oday Aboushi.
  • NFL draft insider Tony Pauline hears the Jets “really like” third-year OL Brent Qvale.
Pauline is largely a draft guru, but he also gets on-point NFL scoops from time to time. Qvale, 25 in March, stands 6-foot-6, 318 and has the athletic makeup of a right tackle. The Jets badly need to upgrade on RT Breno Giacomini.
