Nebraska redshirt junior QB Casey Thompson completed 25-of-42 passes for 354 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions in Saturday’s 31-28 loss to Northwestern.
Nebraska’s best drive came on their first possession of the game when Thompson completed five-of-six passes for 68-yards, capping the drive off with a 32-yard touchdown strike to Isaiah Garcia-Castaneda. From there, the Huskers failed to orchestrate much through air, and were instead buoyed by the rushing efforts of running back Anthony Grant (19-98-2). Thompson would throw two costly interceptions in the second half, including a game-ending pick to linebacker Xander Mueller. This isn’t the start head coach Scott Frost had in mind after adding Thompson and offensive coordinator Mark Whipple to the staff this offseason. Now off to an 0-1 start in conference play, Nebraska will look to rebound next Saturday against North Dakota.
