Mouton has appeared in only nine games since 2009, but with Cortland Finnegan gone via free agency, he’ll be in the mix for snaps in 2012, according to GM Ruston Webster. Tennessee’s nickel corner job is open behind starters Jason McCourty and Alterraun Verner. A third-round pick in 2009, Mouton’s main competition will come from Chris Hawkins and Tommie Campbell.

McCourty is almost certainly done for the day. Journeyman Chris Hawkins has come on.

An intriguing size/speed package at 6'3/206 with legit 4.3 wheels, Campbell has impressed the coaching staff with his commitment level this offseason. With Alterraun Verner shifting to the slot in nickel packages, Campbell will vie with Chris Hawkins and Coty Sensabaugh for snaps opposite Jason McCourty.

Hawkins, 26 in April, spent the 2012 season out of football after appearing in nine games with the Titans in 2011. He’s likely just offseason depth.

Hawkins spent the season on Tennessee’s practice squad after going undrafted out of LSU, where he was a two-year starter and recorded only five picks in his college career. He’s likely just a practice body for offseason work.

Hawkins will provide depth with Dominique Foxworth (ACL) out and Ladarius Webb (knee) still rehabbing. The undrafted free agent out of LSU has good size and work ethic, but he won’t make the team unless another cornerback gets hurt. Hawkins has a better chance at the Ravens’ practice squad.
