This time last year, former Cleveland State guard Bryn Forbes decided to transfer to Michigan State. Forbes has been with the program for a full year now, and heading into his final year of his college career, the senior guard has made significant strides in the offseason, according to head coach Tom Izzo.
“Right now, one of the more improved guys we’ve had has been Bryn Forbes,” Izzo told The Drive with Jack on WQTX on Friday, transcribed by Kyle Austin of MLive.com. “He’s gained about 15 pounds, you see his arms now, they’re not those noodles that used to stick out of his shoulders.”
“He’s done a heck of a job, I’m really excited for Bryn,” Izzo said. “He’s just stronger, he looks tougher, more confident.”
Forbes will be stepping into a larger role next season after averaging 8.5 points and shooting a career-best 43 percent from behind the 3-point line in his first campaign with the Spartans, one that ended with a trip to the Final Four. The same can be said for sophomore point guard Lourawls ‘Tum Tum’ Nairn. But Michigan State will benefit from having Denzel Valentine and adding Eron Harris, the West Virginia transfer 17.2 points per game during the 2013-14 season, who sat out last year.
The Spartans enter next season as one of the favorites to finish atop the Big Ten standings.
