After falling to host Canada in Friday’s semifinal round of the Pan-American Games, with incoming Kentucky freshman guard Jamal Murray scoring all 22 of his points in the fourth quarter and overtime, the United States looked to make sure that it left Toronto with a medal Saturday afternoon. Mark Few’s team was able to do just that, as they rebounded from a rough first half to beat the Dominican Republic 87-82.

Bobby Brown led five Americans in double figures with 19 points while also dishing out five assists, with fellow professional Damien Wilkins adding 18. Baylor forward Taurean Prince added 12, with Wichita State’s Ron Baker and Michigan State’s Denzel Valentine scoring 11 apiece.

The United States trailed by 13 at the half and by nine at the end of three quarters before hitting its stride, outscoring the Dominicans 28-14 in the final stanza. The Dominican Republic committed seven of its 17 turnovers in the fourth quarter, and the United States was able to capitalize.

James Stokely led the Dominicans with 16 points on the afternoon.
