Former UNC redshirt sophomore OL Avery Jones transferred to East Carolina.

Jones is a former four-star recruit who pledged to the Tar Heels before Mack Brown became the coach. He didn’t get a chance to play much, but he should get that chance with the Pirates. The question is when, as if Jones doesn’t get a waiver, the 6-foot-4, 305-pound offensive lineman will need a waiver to play immediately. If he sits out the season, he’ll have two years of eligibility starting in 2021 for ECU.

UNC redshirt sophomore OL Avery Jones has entered the transfer portal.

Jones was a four-star commitment for the Tar Heels who pledged to UNC before Mack Brown took over. The 6-foot-4, 305-pound offensive lineman will have to sit out the season if he does transfer from Chapel Hill if he does not receive a waiver from the NCAA. This is the ninth player to transfer -- assuming Jones does, in fact, leave -- since Brown took over.
