Patriots selected Texas Tech QB Behren Morton with the No. 234 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.
Morton (6’2”/221) is a fifth-year prospect who stepped in as the full-time starter for the Red Raiders in 2023. By the time his career was finished at Texas Tech, Morton ranked fourth in both passing yards (8,989) and passing touchdowns (71), and threw for 2,780-22-6 in his final season, which was plagued by a hairline fracture in his fibula that caused him to miss two games. Morton played with an injury through much of last season but still helped lead Texas Tech to a 12-2 record and a top-10 scoring offense. He undoubtedly earned toughness points with his teammates and coaches, which will bode well for him with scouts at the next level, but Morton’s limited ability as a passer, which includes a below-average deep ball completion rate (38.8 percent) for his career, could limit his overall upside at the next level. Morton boasts a 25-7 career record as a starter and should offer enough to warrant an extended look during training camp, but he’s likely destined to spend at least a few years on a practice squad with hopes to one day be elevated to a 53-man roster.

Texas Tech received a verbal commitment from four-star 2021 QB Behren Morton.
Morton (6'2/180) has taken unofficial game visits to Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, SMU and Baylor this fall, with the Red Raiders ultimately winning out for the Eastland, Texas, native on Tuesday. 247Sports’ Gabe Brooks is a fan of Morton’s accuracy and ability to make plays while on the move. The signal-caller is still developing on the arm strength front. Brooks sees a little Shane Buechele, here. On the 247Sports composite board, Morton lands as the No. 250 overall prospect in the 2021 class.

Uncommitted four-star 2021 QB Behren Morton picked up an offer from Texas A&M on Wednesday.
Morton (6'2/180) is one of the better quarterbacks in what is a very deep 2021 class in the state of Texas, and HC Jimbo Fisher made sure to offer him after his performance at Texas A&M’s camp on Wednesday. “We were just talking and he said that he really liked me. He liked that I played four other sports,” Morton told Brian Perroni of 247Sports. “He likes the way it comes off my hand. Just the way I was competing out there today, he really liked. He offered me then.” The four-star signal caller has trips to TCU (June 7), Oklahoma State (June 12) and Texas Tech (June 15) scheduled for this month.
