Patriots claimed QB Tommy DeVito off waivers from the Giants.
DeVito threw for 198 yards and three touchdowns against the Patriots in the preseason finale and now he’ll join New England’s active roster. The 27-year-old started six games with the Giants in 2023, but he’ll serve as New England’s third quarterback behind Drake Maye and Josh Dobbs. New England also claimed DB Charles Woods off waivers from the Rams.
  • NE Cornerback #22
WVU redshirt senior CB Charles Woods showed he was among the best at his position in the Big 12 on the stat sheet last season.
Woods (5'11/194) is finding success at the third stop of his career as a player who has heavily taken advantage of the transfer portal. According to Pro Football Focus, Woods posted the lowest passer rating allowed by a cornerback in the Big 12 in a single season (22.1) in 2021. It wasn’t particularly close, either, with Xavien Howard (32.9 in 2015) directly behind him.

  • NE Cornerback #22
SMU redshirt sophomore DB Charles Woods flipped his transfer to West Virginia.
Woods had committed to transfer from Illinois State to SMU back in late-March, but he has now flipped that commitment to West Virginia. In two years of play, Woods has been quite productive, registering six interceptions over the course of those two seasons, with four of them coming in 2019. At 6-foot-1 and 175-pounds, Woods is a tad light for the position, but he’s already proven he can play at a high level despite that. Expect Woods to contribute sooner rather than later.
