UTEP redshirt freshman RB Deion Hankins underwent shoulder surgery this week.
Hankins (6'0/215) and Ronald Awatt essentially split time in the backfield for the Miners who went 7-6 this season. He underwent shoulder surgery this week but should be ready for offseason workouts. He and Awatt should again be the 1-2 punch in the backfield.

UTEP redshirt freshman RB Deion Hankins (shoulder) will not play in Friday’s game at Boise State.
Hankins (6'0/215) injured his shoulder during the Miners’ season-opening win over New Mexico State, and, as a result, he was held out of this past weekend’s win over Bethune-Cookman. The redshirt freshman will miss a second straight game unfortunately, as HC Dana Dimel officially ruled Hankins out during his press conference on Monday. The expectation is that Hankins will be healthy enough to play when UTEP hosts New Mexico on September 25.

UTEP redshirt freshman RB Deion Hankins (undisclosed) has been ruled out for Saturday’s game against Bethune-Cookman.
Hankins (6'0/215) was injured during the first half of UTEP’s Week 0 win over New Mexico State, and he did not play at all in the second stanza. While it was originally believed that the redshirt freshman could be rested tonight, with an eye towards UTEP’s September 10 game at Boise State, the injury is a bit more serious than that. According to Bret Bloomquist of the El Paso Times, Hankins could be out until UTEP hosts New Mexico September 25.

UTEP redshirt freshman RB Deion Hankins (undisclosed) did not participate in Wednesday’s practice, according to Bret Bloomquist of the El Paso Times.
Based upon the update provided by HC Dana Dimel on Monday, it comes as no surprise that Hankins (6'0/215) has yet to rejoin his teammates on the practice field. The redshirt freshman rushed for 50 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries in the Miners’ Week 0 win over New Mexico State, but he was forced to leave that game shortly after halftime due to the injury. Saturday’s matchup with Bethune-Cookman could be viewed as an opportunity to get Hankins some extra (and needed) rest, as UTEP is scheduled to visit Boise State on September 10. If he’s officially ruled out, Ronald Awatt and Quardraiz Wadley will shoulder much of the load in the backfield.

UTEP redshirt freshman RB Deion Hankins (undisclosed) is considered to be doubtful for Saturday’s game against Bethune-Cookman.
Hankins (6'0/215) had to exit UTEP’s 30-3 win over New Mexico State due to injury, but after the game HC Dana Dimel said that there was no cause for concern. While this week’s matchup represents a good opportunity for the Miners to get the redshirt freshman some extra rest, Dimel did say during his press conference that he was unsure about Hankins’ timeline for return. Ronald Awatt (11 rushes for 74 yards and a touchdown) had as many carries as Hankins (11-50-1) in the opener, and the latter’s absence will free up more opportunities for Quardraiz Wadley (6-51-0). After Bethune-Cookman, UTEP is scheduled to visit Boise State on September 10.
