NFL Network draft analyst Lance Zierlein named Notre Dame QB Jack Coan as a sleeper to watch during workouts.
Coan (6'3/220) had quite an interesting career. He was a one-year starter for Wisconsin before getting beaten out by Graham Mertz. Coan transferred to Notre Dame and won the starting job, but had some struggles holding on to the job. Zierlein noted that in watching all of his games, the intermediate throws stood out to him and they looked like that of an NFL quarterback. With the second group of QBs uncertain, Coan has a chance to earn himself a lot of money during Thursday’s workouts.

  • Notre Dame senior QB Jack Coan completed 10-of-13 passes for 91 yards and a touchdown in Thursday’s East vs. West Shrine Game
Even in an upcoming draft that most consider not deep at the quarterback position, the former Fighting Irish QB has been an afterthought. Analysts have given him the dreaded “game manager” label that is considered negative, but in an interview, Coan (6'3/220) tried to it into a positive. He was the starter for the West Allstars and he got the scoring going when he moved slightly to his right and found Oregon State TE Teagan Quitoriano in the flat for the one-yard pass. He’s looked good in some of the drills during the week and was very efficient in this game. You can’t say that he’s move near the top of the list of quarterback prospects, but with the combine and his pro day, there is still time to show off to teams he’s worth taking chance on.

  • NO Running Back #83
North Carolina senior RB Ty Chandler named to Shrine Bowl West All Practice Team.
Chandler has been one of the standouts at the Senior Bowl, and he’s coming off a fantastic season with UNC. He had 14 total touchdowns on a stellar six yards per carry. He’ll be a great weapon as a modern RB that can both run and catch out of the backfield. Jack Coan, Tyquan Thornton and Jelani Woods round out the rest of the offensive winners.

  • Notre Dame senior QB Jack Coan has an interesting spin on the “game manager” label several have given him.
Coan (6'3/220) is a bit of an underdog heading into the 2022 NFL Draft, largely labeled as a “game manager” by analysts. While that phrase is typically given a negative connotation, Coan sees the positives in it. “I know the term ‘game manager’ has been thrown around but I view that as a positive and is some stuff I actually try to do,” Coan told The Draft Network."A game manager is someone who keeps his team in good situations and doesn’t turn the ball over… has a high completion percentage and just makes smart and efficient decisions. I have a chunk-to-check-down mentality on every play and if I like the look a defense is giving me, I’ll check it down and if the shot is there, I’ll take it. That’s how I play and I try to make the right decisions.” Coan completed more than 65% of his passing attempts for 3,150 yards with 25 touchdowns and seven interceptions, further growing as a passer with the Fighting Irish.

  • Notre Dame senior QB Jack Coan completed 38-of-68 passes for 509 yards, five touchdowns and one interception on Saturday’s 37-35 Fiesta Bowl loss to Oklahoma State.
Coan (6'3/220) by halftime, Coan had already had one of the of best games in Fiesta Bowl history, throwing for 342 yards and four touchdowns at halftime to give Notre Dame a 28-14 lead by the end of the second quarter. Coan threw touchdowns of seven, 16, 29 and 53 yards in the first half with two of those going to tight end Michael Mayer in the second quarter. His 53-yard touchdown pass came on a short dump off to running back Chris Tyree, as Coan, in the face of an Oklahoma State blitz, found Tyree for the short pass, before Tyree did the rest of the work by going untouched to the end zone. With the Irish down 37-28 late, Coan would find wide receiver Kevin Austin Jr. on a 25-yard touchdown to narrow the Cowboys’ lead to 37-35, but a failed onside kick recovery would seal the fate for Notre Dame. Despite the loss, Coan’s big game was an impressive performance against an elite Oklahoma State defense. He finishes 2021 with 3,150 passing yards, 25 touchdowns and seven interceptions.

  • Notre Dame senior QB Jack Coan completed 15-of-20 passes for 285 yards and two touchdowns in Notre Dame’s 55-0 win over Georgia Tech.
Coan (6'3"/220) effectively managed the game, as Georgia Tech put up zero resistance against a dominant Notre Dame team. Notre Dame scored 24 points in the first quarter, with one of those being a 55-yard catch and run by Michael Mayer, who was wide open down the seam. Coan’s other touchdown was a well worked screen. Notre Dame’s defense and run game didn’t leave much for Coan to do, but he still made the most of his opportunities, and he only played the first half. Notre Dame has been rolling recently, and Coan playing efficient, low-mistake football has been a big part of that. Notre Dame finishes their regular season against a struggling Stanford squad that has lost six straight.

  • Notre Dame senior QB Jack Coan completed 15-of-20 passes for 132 yards with three touchdowns and an interception in a 28-3 rout of Virginia on Saturday.
Coan and Notre Dame were the dominant team from the get, and took the foot off the gas in the second half. The one mistake the 6-foot-3, 220-pound quarterback made was a bad read on a deep pass, but it didn’t hurt the Fighting Irish at all. His best throw was his final touchdown; a dime to Kelvin Austin Jr. up the sidelines that gave Notre Dame a 28-0 lead. The Fighting Irish move to 9-1, and will be heavy favorites next Saturday against Georgia Tech.

  • Notre Dame senior QB Jack Coan completed 23-of-29 passes for 269 yards with a touchdown in a 34-6 rout of Navy on Saturday.
Coan was efficient as he can be on Saturday; missing on very few throws and keeping the Notre Dame offense on schedule after a rough first quarter. His touchdown made it 17-3 near the end of the second quarter, and it effectively pu the game away. Coan (6'3/220) and the Fighting Irish are now 8-1, and have a great chance to get to 9-1 as they take on Virginia next weekend.

  • Notre Dame senior QB Jack Coan threw for 223 yards with a touchdown on 17-of-25 passing and ran for a score in a 44-34 win on Saturday over North Carolina.
A very efficient night for Coan on a night where they needed to put up points against the Tar Heels. Put up points they did, as the senior threw a 21-yard touchdown to Avery Davis, and also had a rare rushing score with a 21-yard scramble in the third to reclaim a lead Notre Dame didn’t look back from. Coan (6'3/220) has the Fighting Irish at 7-1, and he’ll face off against rival Navy next Saturday.

  • Notre Dame senior QB Jack Coan completed 20-of-28 passes for 189 yards with a touchdown and an interception in a 31-16 win over USC on Saturday.
Coan was very much game manager in this one, but an effective one for the most part. The one interception was a bad one, as it came with a chance for Notre Dame to put away the game. Fortunately for him, it didn’t end up costing the Fighting Irish the game, and Notre Dame has now won four straight in one of the oldest rivalries in the sport. His touchdown pass was a four-yard score to give the Irish a 7-0 lead. Coan (6'3/220) will have a chance to lead Notre Dame to a seventh win next week against North Carolina.
