AFCA reverses course on secret ballots

The American Football Coaches Association created quite a stir back in May by announcing that they would be eliminating the release of the individual coach’s final ballot in the USA Today coaches’ poll.

The changes, among others, were brought about by a study commissioned by the AFCA in January and performed by the World Gallup Poll organization. The move was immediately decried as a turn back to the Dark Ages, and there have been hints that the poll would be dropped from the BcS if the AFCA followed through on their secrecy vow.

Now, thankfully, the group has come to its senses and reversed course on their earlier decision.

According to the AFCAs official website, ''Executive Director, Grant Teaff announced today that the final regular season ballots of each voter in the AFCA/USA Today Top 25 Coaches’ Poll will remain public.’'

The initiative suggested by the people at Gallup had not been officially implemented, but is now off the table after the AFCA removed their head from their rectum.

''The AFCA agreed to be a part of the BCS selection process when we were asked by the commissioners in 1998,” Teaff said. “As with past decisions by the AFCA and the FBS head coaches, we are again acting in what the coaches believe to be the best interest of the game.’'
