Boise State announced a couple of future series Monday afternoon, both of which will rekindle old WAC “rivalries.”
In a press release, Boise confirmed that it has reached an agreement on a home-and-home series with former conference foe UTEP. The Broncos and Miners will meet in Boise Sept. 4, 2021, and in El Paso, Tex., Sept. 24, 2022.
The two programs have met five times, with four of those meetings taking place while both were members of the WAC. The Broncos have won all five of those contests, with the last coming in 2004.
“We are pleased to re-establish our rivalry with former WAC champion Boise State,” a statement from UTEP athletic director Bob Stull began. “I think our fans will be excited to see the Broncos back in the Sun Bowl.”
“We’re excited to play a storied program that I have a lot of respect for,” said UTEP coach Sean Kugler.
Additionally, Boise announced a future home-and-home with Rice. The Owls will visit Boise Sept. 9, 2023, while the Broncos will travel to Houston Sept. 7, 2024.
Those two teams have met just twice (2001, 2002) while both were members of the WAC.
Rice and UTEP are now Conference USA members, while Boise calls the Mountain West Conference home.
