Colorado to unveil new uniforms on May 1

They’re coming. The Colorado football uniforms to be worn in 2015 will finally be unveiled on May 1.

Buffs head coach Mike MacIntyre will pull back the curtain on the new look for the Colorado football program as part of a scheduled student field day event, which gives students a chance to compete in football skills competitions with members of the football team and more just before finals.

Colorado’s look has mostly been the same for decades now, although with a few alternative tweaks from time to time, like an all-black helmet-uniform combo. What the new Colorado uniforms will look like is anyone’s guess for now. But a fresh take on Colorado’s look may be a bit overdue.

Some suggestions I would throw Colorado’s way would be a reflective chrome gold helmet, similar to Baylor’s reflective gold dome, or a matte black helmet. Either one would work, and perhaps both could be utilized. Maybe something bringing back this design from 1968 would be fun.

Colorado plays in a conference that has seen Oregon see a dramatic change in brand recognition and recruiting on the strength of updated uniforms. Others around the Pac-12 are updating their uniforms as well. Even USC has embraced reflective chrome. So why not Colorado?
