The outside spots on Texas Tech’s defensive line have taken an absolute beating this offseason.
First it was 2008 sack leader Brandon Williams leaving school early to declare for the NFL draft. Then, an expected replacement for Williams’ production, McKinner Dixon, was suspended during spring practice for academic issues, was arrested in May, and then opted to make himself available for the NFL’s supplemental draft in July.
As if that weren’t enough, yet another end will be MIA for at least the early portion of summer camp.
According to the Lubbock Avalanche Journal, Tech DE Brandon Sesay is under a quasi-suspension due to head coach Mike Leach being dissatisfied with the lineman’s academic progress.
The team roster is capped at 105 players until the start of the fall semester August 24. Per Leach, that’s the earliest Sesay will be allowed back on the practice field.
“Contrary to popular belief, no train stops for Brandon Sesay,” the Red Raiders’ conductor said.
Tech opens the season September 5 at home versus North Dakota.
Given the fact that the Big 12 is, you know, kind of a pass-happy conference, putting pressure on the quarterback would certainly be on any team’s to-do list. Given the losses to the line previously, Sesay was being counted on to provide some heat from the edge, which will be hard to do standing on the sidelines.
