Attrition along the defensive line that began in the spring continues even as Michigan State gets set to kick off a new season.
On his personal Twitter account Wednesday, Enoch Smith announced that he has decided to transfer from MSU and continue his collegiate playing career elsewhere. In his missive thanking Spartan Nation for their support the past couple of years, Smith gave no reason for his abrupt departure.Thank u #SpartanNation so much. I will forever appreciate the love. One look at MSU’s most recent depth chart reveals the likely motive for Smith’s transfer as he was listed No. 4 on the depth chart at tackle.
Smith was a three-star 2014 recruit who was rated as the No. 31 defensive tackle in the country. After taking a redshirt as a true freshman, Smith played in three games.
Back in April, MSU announced that sophomores Craig Evans and Montez Sweat had left the program. A month later, the school confirmed that Damon Knox would be pursuing a career in law enforcement instead of playing another season for the Spartans. Just a week ago, Cassius Peat was granted a release from his MSU scholarship.
The football program also added a pair of defensive linemen via transfer, Keith Williams (HERE) from Nebraska and Gabe Sherrod (HERE) from FCS Delaware State. The former is listed as a starting tackle while the latter is the No. 2 end on the depth chart released for the opener against Furman.
