Faxes In: Max Redfield

Max Redfield

Notre Dame just reeled in their third five-star prospect of the day with the official signing of one-time USC commitment Max Redfield. The elite safety has added another intriguing weapon to the defensive arsenal. Let’s take a closer look at what Redfield brings to the table.

MAX REDFIELD
Mission Viejo, California

Measureables: 6-foot-2, 181-pounds
Accolades: USA Today All-American. First-team DB on Los Angeles Times All-Star team. Orange County Register’s Player of the Year. Under Armour All-American. Five-star prospect, Rivals, 247, ESPN. South Coast League MVP for Mission Viejo.
Impressive offers: USC, UCLA, Washington, Stanford, Arizona, Nebraska, Oregon
Projected position: Safety

Quick Take: The highest rated defensive back Notre Dame has signed in the modern recruiting era. Elite size for a safety, with speed and athleticism to spare. One of the top prospects in California, Redfield is the best player on one of the best teams in Southern California.

Physically needs to get stronger, but has instincts and nose for the football that are second to none. The top safety on Notre Dame’s recruiting board in 2013. Plays a deep centerfield but likes to initiate contact as well.

What it means for the Irish roster: Notre Dame has flooded the roster with safety talent over the past few recruiting cycles. But they’ve yet to land an athlete of the caliber of Redfield. How he works into the depth chart remains to been seen, but Redfield will certainly find his way onto the field in some way, shape or form.

It’ll be interesting to see how the Irish handle the numbers they now have in the backend of their defense. You’ve got to think that there might be some attrition when people find themselves buried outside of the two-deep.
