FSU confirms RB Dalvin Cook underwent shoulder surgery

While the headline portends dire straits for one of the most talented and productive running backs in the country, it doesn’t appear to hold as much doom and gloom as it looks.

Wednesday evening, Florida State confirmed that rising junior Dalvin Cook has undergone surgery on one of his shoulders to repair unspecified damage in the joint. Head coach Jimbo Fisher, the Tallahassee Democrat writes, “said Cook felt the injury on a play in a pass protection, and decided to have surgery instead of have the issue linger during the offseason.”

The good news for all involved is that Cook is expected to be sidelined for just a couple of months -- he’ll miss the remainder of spring practice, including the spring game -- and then should be healthy enough to participate in summer workouts in June or July.

While not expressly stated, the program fully expects Cook to be 100-percent for the start of summer camp in early August.

Last season, Cook set FSU single-season records in rushing yards (1,691) and all-purpose yards (1,935). The first-team All-ACC back was fifth in the country in rushing yards per game (140.9).

After finishing seventh in the 2015 Heisman Trophy voting, he’ll enter the 2016 as one of handful of frontrunners for the 2016 version of the hardware.
