A couple of days after it was first reported as a likelihood, Tracy Rocker‘s return to his home state has officially come to fruition.
Georgia confirmed via a press release Tuesday that Rocker has been hired as the Bulldogs’ new defensive line coach. Rocker replaces Chris Wilson, who left to take the same job at USC earlier this month.
“Tracy certainly has a name familiar to all who follow SEC football,” head coach Mark Richt said in a statement. “He was one of the greatest defensive players in SEC history and has become one of the country’s outstanding defensive line coaches. He’s been at several very successful programs as a player and coach and we’re fortunate to have him joining our football staff.”
Rocker, who played his high school football in the state of Georgia, had spent the past three seasons with the NFL’s Tennessee Titans. Prior to his time with the Titans, Rockers had served as the line coach at Troy State (1997-2001), Cincinnati (2002), Arkansas (2003-07), Ole Miss (2008) and his alma mater Auburn (2009-10) before leaving for the NFL.
In 2004, Rocker was enshrined in the College Football Hall of Fame a few years after the end of his All-American playing career at Auburn.
