Back in January, it was announced that 2008 free safety Tramaine Mack was leaving Minnesota due to academic issues, but would likely return in time for the 2009 season.
“Tramaine Brock will not be a part of our team this spring,” head coach Tim Brewster said in a statement at the time. “But we fully anticipate that he will re-join the team this summer and be a part of our program in the fall.”
What we seem to have here, though, is a premature anticipation on the part of Brewster as multiple media outlets are now reporting that Mack will not be available to the Gophers in ’09.
Last season, Mack played in 13 games after transferring from a junior college.
This year, Mack failed to make any -- or enough -- academic progress during his time away from the team to qualify for the Gophers this season.
Or, likely, any season subsequent to this one.
