A week or so after confirming a transfer was a possibility, Jordan Whiting is indeed in the process of parting ways with the Ohio State football program.
In a post made to his Twitter account late Thursday morning, the redshirt sophomore linebacker (sorta pictured, No. 39) confirmed the speculation that he is headed to a Big East school, writing that he “will be attending [the] University of Louisville and will be a Cardinal for the remainder of my college career as a student and athlete!”
Neither school has confirmed Whiting’s arrival or departure. The LB will have to sit out the 2012 season to satisfy NCAA transfer rules. He would have one season of eligibility remaining beginning in 2013.
Whiting missed the first game of the 2011 season due to his role in the infamous “Tatgate” scandal that led to NCAA sanctions for the Buckeyes. After returning from the suspension, Whiting played in seven games the remainder of the season.
The Louisville, Ky., native, a four-star member of OSU’s 2009 recruiting class, is apparently leaving the program with no hard feelings.
“Thank you all for ur support and love. I thank Coach Tressel and Mr. Gene Smith for the opportunity, however my time here has come to an end,” Whiting wrote on Twitter. "[H]onestly its [sic] hard to leave but OSU and the great city of Columbus has taught me a lot to take along with me! ... Sometimes in life there comes a time where u have to make a decision about what’s best for u and ur career and what u want out of life.”
