Michigan State reinstates TE Dion Sims

Six months after pleading guilty to his involvement in a laptop theft ring that victimized the Detroit Public Schools, Dion Sims has been reinstated to the Michigan State football program.

Head coach Mark Dantonio made the announcement regarding the tight end Monday afternoon.

“At this point in time he has done everything we asked him to do,” Dantonio said. “He has had an excellent semester in school, he has been compliant in every respect - both in house and out of house.”

The junior missed the 2010 season because of the legal issues.

Sims was one of ten men arrested and charged for their involvement in a scheme that resulted in the theft of 104 laptops from the school system worth nearly $160,000. Sims pleaded guilty to felony receiving and concealing stolen property, and was sentenced to one year’s probation and 15 hours of community service..

With his reinstatement in effect, Sims is listed as the No. 2 TE on the Spartans’ depth chart.

In addition to the Sims news, Dantonio also announced that tight end Brian Linthicum and linebacker Max Bullough have been suspended for a handful of spring practices. Both players were arrested in Colorado earlier this month.
