Michigan’s Graham Glasgow violates probation, suspended

The off-field Twitter fun and games are officially over for Jim Harbaugh.

With the abrupt departure of Jack Miller earlier this month, Graham Glasgow was penciled in -- some would say penned in -- as the potential successor at center. Glasgow, though, will have to navigate a legal situation before he’ll be able to battle Patrick Kugler for that opportunity.

In July of 2014, Glasgow was sentenced in connection to a drunk-driving charge from March. As part of that sentence, he was placed on 12 months probation, with one of the stipulations being that he couldn’t consume alcohol... which leads us to the lineman’s latest issue.

According to the Detroit News, Glasgow blew a .086 on a Breathalyzer administered at some point Sunday; why the test was administered wasn’t divulged, although it was very likely connected to his probation. The News wrote that “at ‘9:59 a.m. (Sunday) Mr. Glasgow admitted he consumed alcohol,’ the records state.”

As a result of the test and the admission, Glasgow is in violation of his parole. What this will mean moving forward when it comes to both the courts and the football program remains to be seen.

“I made a mistake,” Glasgow told the judge at his sentencing. “I let a lot of people down. I’m sorry. This is an opportunity to learn from the mistake and never let this happen again.”

Suspended for the 2014 opener, Glasgow went on to start all 11 games in which he played last year. In 2013, Glasgow started 13 games — nine at center, four at guard.

UPDATED 8:02 p.m. ET: A few hours after the reports initially surfaced, Jim Harbaugh confirmed in a statement that Graham Glasgow has been suspended by the football program.

“We have been made aware of Graham’s probation violation and he has been suspended. Graham will be subject to punishment through the judicial system, the student-athlete alcohol policy and the Michigan football program.”
