Following a 10-3 record and a MACn title -- the first in 28 years -- in just his first year at Northern Illinois, coach Dave Doeren will be getting an extension and raise.
The school announced today that Doeren will get a one-year extension that will take him through 2017 in his contract and a $50,000 annual raise that will take his salary from $371,000 to $420,000.
“We feel like we have the best coach in the MAC and we wanted to be sure his contract reflected that,” said AD Jeff Compher said in a statement. “According to the data we have, this increase will make him the third-highest paid coach in the MAC. It’s important for us to be at the top of the league as we continue to build on this championship season and move our program forward. In addition, we want to do everything possible to keep Dave as our head coach, and feel the additional compensation is an important part of that effort.”
Doeren came to NIU from Wisconsin after Jerry Kill left last year to take the Minnesota job. The Huskies will play in the GoDaddy.com Bowl on Jan. 8 against Arkansas State.
