Report: Jim Grobe to interview for UAB job

Nearly seven weeks after abruptly and unexpectedly resigning his long-time post, it appears that Jim Grobe is ready to dive back into the coaching pool.

Citing an unnamed source, al.com reported Thursday night that Grobe is scheduled to interview for the head-coaching vacancy at UAB. The interview, the paper reported, is expected to take place at some point Friday in Atlanta.

Grobe spent 13 seasons as the head coach at Wake Forest, with the high point in his tenure coming in 2006 with an ACC title and Orange Bowl bid. The last five seasons with the Demon Deacons, however, ended with sub-.500 records.

The Blazers are searching for a replacement for Garrick McGee, who himself abruptly resigned as head coach earlier this month to take the offensive coordinator job at Louisville.

Earlier this week, it was reported that UAB was expected to dip into the FCS ranks for its hire, although several interviews have reportedly taken place this week. Among those include Cincinnati offensive coordinator Eddie Gran, Bethune-Cookman head coach Brian Jenkins and Atlanta Falcons tight ends coach Chris Scelfo.

The FCS coach of interest, Jacksonville State’s Bill Clark, will reportedly interview for the job today as well.
