Rutgers loses quarterback to transfer

Maybe he’s standing in solidarity with journalists over Julie Hermann’s rather boneheaded comments about the Star-Ledger. Though in actuality, Rutgers quarterback Blake Rankin is transferring because he’s not part of the group vying to be the Scarlet Knights’ starter this coming season.

Rankin came to Rutgers rated as a three-star recruit, though hasn’t played a snap in his two years on campus. With Gary Nova, Mike Bimonte and Chris Laviano taking hold of the QB battle, Rankin said it was time to move on.

“I have three more years of eligibility and I really miss just playing the game of football,” he said.
