Are you kidding me?
Oklahoma State’s last-second 38-35 victory over Texas A&M was thrilling, especially in the last five minutes of the game when the Aggies rallied from 14 points down to tie the game at 35. But a Jerrod Johnson interception (his fourth of the night) allowed Oklahoma State to manage a field goal and squeak out with a victory.
What viewers saw tonight were two evenly-matched teams -- neither great, nor horrible. Before kickoff, questions swirled as to what we would be seeing tonight from both sides. After that performance, I’d say resilient.
Pretty? Hardly. Johnson was responsible for all five of Texas A&M’s turnovers, but oversaw four critical fourth down conversions, including one for a touchdown. He threw for over 400 yards and 5 touchdowns.
Consistent? No way, Jose. Oklahoma State couldn’t get anything going in the first half offensively until the end of the second quarter. But the Cowboys came out in the second half swinging, scoring at one time 28 unanswered points, only to allow A&M to strike back with 12 of their own.
OK. State and A&M may not have asserted themselves as serious contenders in the Big 12 South tonight, but if they can muster half of the resilience they showed in this shootout, they have a shot.
Sometimes that’s all you need.
