Thinning of the Herd: starting Marshall lineman dismissed

Unfortunately for senior Marshall offensive lineman Brandon Campbell, it’s two strikes and your out of Doc Holliday‘s football program.

Saying " it’s disappointing when a go lets you down like that”, Holliday announced Tuesday that Campbell has been dismissed from the Herd football team, five days after he was suspended for the second time this season.

“You invest so much,” Holliday said. “You work 365 days a year to go out and get 12 opportunities. These kids, if I ask them to be in at 10 o’clock at night on a Thursday night, which I think is one of the most important nights of the week to get the proper rest, you need to go out and be at competitive excellence when you play on Saturday, then they are going to be in at 10 o’clock.

“If you can’t do that 12 nights out of the year then you are not committed enough to play for Marshall. That’s the way it is going to be. It’s not going to be any different next year and the following year and the following year. I’m not going to waver on that and I never will.”

(Writer’s note: pardon me while I pause to give the good Doc a brief standing ovation...)

Campbell was suspended for last Saturday’s loss to SMU after missing curfew Thursday night. He was also suspended for the Sept. 18 loss to Bowling Green for violating an unspecified team rule.

In the nine games where he wasn’t suspended, Campbell had started every one of them at right tackle. Redshirt freshman Corey Tenney is expected to replace Campbell in the starting lineup for the season finale against Tulane.
