Thrice as nice: Media sees another Tide-Gator battle on the horizon

If the media -- along with just about everybody else in America -- is right, Alabama and Florida are in line for a third consecutive showdown for the SEC title.

In voting conducted by the media, the results of which were released this morning, the Tide and Gators were runaway picks to win their respective divisions and meet yet again in early December.

And, not only does the media see a repeat of the last two conference title games, they also see a repeat winner; 143 of the 177 voters picked the Tide to be the SEC champion, with 17 opting for the Gators. To show how much that means, though, South Carolina and Kentucky also received a sympathy vote apiece.

Overall, the Crimson Tide received 153 first-place votes, far outpacing Western Division rival Auburn and their 10 votes. Arkansas had fewer first-place votes (6) than the Tigers, but were still picked to finish second behind the Tide in the West.

Also receiving first-place votes were Ole Miss (3) and LSU (1); even with three voters placing them atop the division, the media still sees the Rebels sitting in the West’s cellar.

In the Eastern Division, the Gators received 153 first-place votes to hold the top spot in that division, followed by Georgia (15) and South Carolina (8). Somewhat stunningly -- and concrete proof that some media-types really, really lean heavily on hallucinogens while putting together their ballots -- Vanderbilt received one first-place vote.
