Urban might be looking to dip into Irish for assistant

Prior to Notre Dame’s bowl game, Tim Hinton made it perfectly clear that he was very happy being a member of Brian Kelly’s coaching staff and had no intention of leaving.

“Here’s what I know: I am coaching at the University of Notre Dame,” said the running backs coach. “That’s all for everything else, that’s all for everybody else. I’ve got one thing to do: I’m going to coach Cierre Wood, and I’m going to coach Theo Riddick, and I’m going to coach George (Atkinson III) and Cam (McDaniel) and that’s the only thing we can do. That’s the bottom line. Do I want to be at Notre Dame? Absolutely.”

Less than a week later, Hinton’s very public denial of interest in another job has reportedly given way to a very private interest in another job.

By way of the Chicago Tribune, Scout.com‘s Bill Greene wrote on Twitter Sunday that Hinton will be heading to Ohio State as an assistant on Urban Meyer‘s staff. Specifically, Green writes, Hinton would become the Buckeyes’ tight ends coach.

Notre Dame confirmed in a press release that Hinton was leaving to pursue other opportunities.

Hinton served as a grad assistant at OSU in the mid-80s, with one of those two years overlapping Meyer’s time on Earle Bruce‘s staff. He has been a part of Kelly’s staffs at Cincinnati and Notre Dame since 2007.
