Virginia Tech TE Kalvin Cline announces transfer to Texas A&M

Texas A&M will be the new football home for tight end Kalvin Cline. The now former Virginia Tech player announced he will be relocating to College Station for the final two years of his college eligibility. Cline announced the news on his Instagram account Sunday afternoon.

“Couldn’t be more thankful for my time at Virginia Tech,” Cline said. “It’s been an amazing 3 years and Hokie Nation has a special place in my heart. It was truly an honor to play for a legend like Frank Beamer and I wish nothing but the best for my teammates this up coming season. But after I graduate in May I will be finishing my last 2 years of eligibility at Texas A&M. Can’t wait to do big things at College station and see the 12th man light up the stadium!”

As noted, Cline will be graduating from Virginia Tech, which means he will be eligible to play right away this fall for the Aggies thanks to the NCAA’s graduate transfer rules. That is fantastic news for Texas A&M head coach Kevin Sumlin, because tight end is a major position in need of bodies. Just days ago, Jordan Davis announced a transfer from Texas A&M to pursue other opportunities. That left the Aggies with zero scholarship tight ends on the roster heading into the 2016 season.

Cline was Virginia Tech’s seventh-leading receiver in 2015 with three catches for 38 yards in nine games. Cline was largely buried in the Hokies offense at the position with sophomore Bucky Hodges proving to be a reliable option in the passing game with 530 yards and six touchdown receptions. At Texas A&M he should be expected to get an immediate chance to compete and possibly win a starting job in Texas A&M’s offense.
