I’ve never much cared for Paul Maguire’s work as an analyst. Half the time he comes across as though he’s intentionally saying stupid things just to get a rise out of his on-air partners. But there’s something I’ve liked even less about Maguire since he left the ESPN NFL booth and moved on to calling college football on ABC: He sits in weird places in the stadium, and they always make an issue of where he’s sitting during the game. Ty Hildenbrandt writes at SI.com:"They’ve created a game of it, actually -- Maguire is apparently the new Waldo. Last Saturday, he commentated from the moving sideline camera that zooms up and down the field. In the past, he’s chimed in from the production truck outside the stadium. Maybe one day they’ll stick him underwater. Who knows? What’s the point of all this? How does this add to the quality of a broadcast?"The answer is that it doesn’t add to the quality of the broadcast. I really wish ABC would knock it off.
