With possible charges looming, IU running back okay to practice

The status of Indiana running back Darius Willis remains uncertain as the Hoosiers begin spring practice under new head coach Kevin Wilson. Willis, who missed a good portion of the 2010 season due to a groin injury, was limited in practice this week from a walking boot.

There are, however, bigger issues for Willis as it pertains to his future role with the team.

Willis is currently under protective order by a Monroe County Circuit judge because of an alleged domestic assault incident that occurred back in December. The order was issued by the complainant on March 3. In the meantime, Wilson is letting Willis practice -- for now -- as he awaits word as to whether the complainant will press charges.

“Technically, I don’t know what’s going through the court deal, so [f]or now, we’re just trying to see what the legal folks do. Then we’ll wait and see if we have any school or athletic department or football sanctions. So we’re just waiting to make sure we got all the facts and legally, everybody’s story, we’ll see how it plays out.”

Willis was IU’s second leading rusher last season with 278 yards and 4 touchdowns before the October groin injury.
