Chiefs selected Texas A&M RB Cyrus Gray with the No. 182 overall pick in the 2012 NFL draft.
A former top prospect, Gray’s stock was derailed by injuries. He ran a 4.47 40 at the Scouting Combine, but rarely displayed that kind of speed in-game. Gray can catch and block, however, and is a load at 5-foot-10, 206 pounds. If he wins a roster spot, Gray could prove to be a better version of free agent Jackie Battle.
  • FA Wide Receiver #19
Chiefs signed fourth-round WR Devon Wylie, sixth-round RB Cyrus Gray, seventh-round WR Junior Hemingway, and seventh-round DE Jerome Long to four-year contracts.
Drawing comparisons to Wes Welker “every day of his life,” Wylie projects as a long-term slot receiver and punt returner. Formerly a top prospect, Gray has a chance to take Jackie Battle’s roster spot as the final running back. Long will vie for a backup spot on the defensive line. Hemingway will help more on special teams than at receiver.

Texas A&M RB Cyrus Gray ran an official forty-yard dash time of 4.47 and was clocked “unofficially” as fast as 4.41 at the NFL Combine.
He measured in at 5-foot-10 3/8 and 206 pounds earlier in the week, nearly identical to Virginia Tech’s David Wilson. Unlike Wilson, Gray doesn’t play in the 4.4 range and he has a checkered medical history. Still offering the potential to be a day-three value pick, Gray played in a pro-style offense under Mike Sherman in College Station. He was a top prospect before the injuries.
  • FA Running Back
Third-round rookie Knile Davis has been the clear-cut No. 2 running back at Chiefs camp.
Davis has zoomed past Shaun Draughn and Cyrus Gray without issue, showing “game-breaking speed” and “uncanny elusiveness” as a runner. His notorious fumble issues haven’t cropped up yet. It’s something to file away as we await official word on Jamaal Charles’ foot injury.

Knile Davis was forced from Kansas City’s Wild Card game against the Colts with a knee injury, and will not return.
Filling in for Jamaal Charles (concussion), Davis got his knee twisted in the fourth quarter. Cyrus Gray is now the Chiefs’ lead back, and in line to start a possible Divisional Round game if neither Charles nor Davis can go. Davis had proven to be a capable fill-in before going down, taking the rock 18 times for 67 yards and a touchdown. He added seven catches for 33 yards and another score. David could have had a third touchdown, but failed at the goal-line. Despite Davis’ fumbling woes, he’s an excellent Dynasty-league prospect, so hopefully he’s avoided serious injury. His athleticism is off the charts.

Cyrus Gray rushed twice for five yards in Kansas City’s Wild Card loss to the Colts.
Gray was thrust into action after the Chiefs lost both Jamaal Charles (concussion) and Knile Davis (knee) to injury. A second-year sixth rounder, Gray has managed only 16 carries for 68 yards through his first two years in the league. A stout 5-foot-10, 206 pounds, Gray has 4.4 speed, but doesn’t play to it. He’ll be on the roster bubble next summer.

    Chiefs waived RB Cyrus Gray.
The Chiefs used a 2012 sixth-round pick on Gray. He appeared in 35 games the past three seasons, mainly on special teams. He’s rushed for 99 career yards and one touchdown on 24 carries as the No. 3 back. Gray suffered a torn ACL in November and is now healthy enough where the Chiefs could cut him.

Chiefs RB Cyrus Gray suffered a torn ACL in Sunday’s win over the Bills.
He’ll be placed on injured reserve, ending his season. Gray is under contract through 2015 and should be back to compete for a roster spot. De’Anthony Thomas will replace Gray as the Chiefs’ No. 3 back.
  • FA Running Back
Chiefs RB Cyrus Gray rushed four times for 18 yards and a touchdown in Sunday’s Week 3 romp over the Dolphins.
With Jamaal Charles (ankle) inactive, Gray scored a red-zone touchdown in garbage time. Gray is buried on the depth chart in Kansas City and has no fantasy value, whether it be in re-draft or Dynasty leagues.
